Heritage Valley Fire Station
The Design Team of Johnston Davidson Architecture + Planning Inc. and Architecture | Tkalcic Bengert have been commissioned to design a new fire station to be located in the Heritage Valley Town Centre Neighborhood. In addition to meeting the programmatic requirements, the project is designed to obtain a LEED-NC Gold certification. The structure was designed to meet the post disaster requirements of the Alberta Building Code.
The project incorporates community access as a majority of the site is accessible to the public by way of sidewalks constructed along both street sides of the project and through the forecourt which connects with the pedestrian greenway north of the site. This area combines public seating and open green space adding to the pedestrian scale of the area and the interest of the whole street.
The building was designed to meet the climactic characteristics of Edmonton and provides a building which protects the members of the facility from the extreme winter elements and provides significant shaded open space for use during summer. We anticipate generating a project which will hopefully not only set the tone for future buildings in the area, but also meet the principles of good urban design.
