Sechelt Justice Building

This stand-alone building houses two separate clients with a complex set of special guidelines and circulation systems, which placed great demands on the creativity of the design and client team. The building provides approx.15,000 sf of RCMP space including administrative offices, general duty offices, multipurpose rooms, secure storage and area functions which are shared with the sheriff's department. The courthouse level, approx.10,000 sf, provides 1 main courtroom, 2 courtroom/family settlement rooms, court registry, crown council, sheriff's services, judicial chambers and victim services offices. The building has been designed to incorporate many principles of "green" building technology and provide the client with a building that is environmentally sustainable as well as economically sound. Building shape, orientation, natural daylighting, a green roof, an "earth-energy heat-sink system" and environmentally favourable materials are examples that have enabled us to reduce the mechanical requirements while improving rather than sacrificing the comfort level of the occupants.
