Over 50 fire halls designed by JDa

You could say that Johnston Davidson Architecture is on fire. Designing fire halls, that is. We recently celebrated the firm’s 50th fire hall design, completed over the last 30+ years. That’s in addition to a number of other fire hall-related pieces of work, including feasibility studies and renovations. Here are some notable stats:

  • First fire hall:  Vancouver Fire Hall No. 12 at 2460 Balaclava St, Vancouver, in 1987; the two-storey, 8,250-sf building had a budget of $750,000

Vancouver Fire Hall No. 12: the first of 50 fire halls designed by JDa

  • Largest fire hall: Fort St John Fire Hall No. 1; the 23,500-sf project was completed for $9.5M in 2014
  • Fire halls furthest afield: Ellerslie, Lewis Estates, Pilot Sound and Heritage Valley fire halls, designed and built between 2012 and 2017 in Edmonton, Alberta, about 1,100 km from our office
  • Biggest budget: Vancouver Fire Hall No. 5 and YWCA-run social housing colocation project; the soon-to-be-completed building has a project budget of $16M

The number of fire halls completed by JDa is set to increase, with many projects at different stages of the design and building process currently in the works. Find out more about our protective/emergency services work.
