Vancouver Fire Hall No. 5 & YWCA-run affordable housing nears completion

The countdown is on for the completion of the eagerly awaited Vancouver Fire Hall No. 5 and YWCA housing colocation project.

The building at the southwest corner of 54th and Kerr on Vancouver’s southeast side is fast approaching its completion date, and JDa’s team of architects have been busy reviewing the quality of the interior and exterior fittings and furnishings.

The 42,500-sf building will bring together the Vancouver Fire & Rescue Service and YWCA-run affordable family housing for single mothers and their children in the one building, combining sustainable architecture with social sustainability.

With four stories of housing situated above the fire hall, the unique project promotes social spaces, urban agriculture and tenant wellbeing while fulfilling the specific programmatic requirements of the fire service.
