Ellerslie Fire Hall
Edmonton is one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities. With that growth comes the critical need for additional fire rescue stations—many of which JDa is proud to have designed. We understand that protective services buildings must, first and foremost, be functional, permitting quick emergency response times. In Edmonton, they also need to be rugged to withstand harsh winter conditions. As public buildings, they must also be cost-efficient and sustainable. And we think they should also be beautiful.
Award winning design
Situated on a challenging narrow lot, this multi-award-winning satellite station serves the rapidly-growing Ellerslie area near Edmonton’s southern city limits. Designed alongside Architecture | Tkalcic Bengert, it features three drive-through apparatus bays that can house six vehicles, a modern kitchen, gym, lounge and dorms, and a circulation plan that allows for nimble emergency response. A park adds much-needed green space to this mostly light industrial area.
Wood and natural light feature heavily throughout the fire hall.
JDa spends considerable time assessing the needs of the community in which each of our projects will be built. For fire halls, that usually means developing a community asset of lasting value in addition to the building itself. Often, that takes the form of a park, a community garden, a green belt or other outdoor area that can be used by those who live and work nearby.
