Intern Architect level 1

We are looking for individuals who want to help provide a “home” for our public servants and talented architects who are eager to learn and provide support to the team. This is an introductory level position, and we believe in individuals who want to leave a positive impact on the future generation of the community and would like to build their architectural careers.

If you believe this is you, you would be responsible for:

  • Provide support to team members with various architectural task
  • Prepare programming space for studies and projects
  • Ensuring building code is up to date, and adhering to any legal requirements
  • Development of working drawings using Revit
  • Assisting preparing drawing submission, building permit, and other various construction administration
  • Participating in deficiency review, site details, and site visit as required
  • Review shop drawings and submittals
  • And other various task that would contribute to your AIBC internship goals


While we do not require all the qualifications, the best candidate to represent JDa would have:

  • Eligible to be registered with the AIBC program
  • Arch in Architecture and /or an institution recognized by the AIBC / CACB
  • Previous experience working in an office setting for a minimum of one year
  • Strong Adobe skills (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Revit experience (Proficient in Revit – nice to have)
  • Physical model making
  • Computer rendering and digital visualization skills
  • Knowledge of the BC Building Code
  • Good work ethic and enthusiasm for working as a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Well organized with good interpersonal skills
  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Looking to build their career

 

Salary Range: $55,000 – $65,000

Proposal Writer / Communications Specialist

We are currently undergoing a search for an energetic and enthusiastic person, with great work ethic and who shares our keen interest in the pursuit of architecturally oriented challenges to join our team. JDa offers the successful applicant an opportunity to grow within the context of a small design oriented firm with a track record for interesting and innovative projects.

This is a full-time position. Candidates will have an interest in working as part of a team, a strong work ethic and share a passion for design, story telling, art, graphics, community and connecting with others.

The position is multi-faceted, with a variety of opportunities and tasks — in short, there are never any dull moments. The preparation of Architectural proposals, responding to RFP’s with the ability to effectively convey our firms ability to deliver the project successfully. The position also involves working within the firm’s current strategic business plan to increase development opportunities, manage / improve our social media presence and expand / create marketing communications strategies.

The applicant will be required to be a self-starter with the ability to work individually and in a team environment. A keen eye for graphic design and the ability to increase the visibility of our brand through the use of graphics, is an essential part in the success of this position. Our ideal candidate is someone who brings enthusiasm, a can-do attitude and looking for an opportunity to be creative and goal driven. Lastly, our office is based in the Strathcona neighbourhood of Vancouver, between a Cheese Shop and a Micro-Brewery / Pizza Joint….aka, the perfect location.

The successful candidate should possess the following:

  • Experience with proposal writing.
  • Degree in Communications or Marketing.
  • 3-5 years minimum office experience.
  • A strong set of demonstrable skills in web design and social media.
  • A keen eye for graphics and understanding our brand.
  • Familiarity with implementing graphic design layout of promotional materials and experience in desktop publishing.
  • An understanding of business to business marketing including executing business development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with British Columbia and municipal processes is an advantage.
  • Ability to bring expertise in marketing and adapt to the architectural world.
  • Must be proficient in a web design platform such as Dreamweaver or Word Press; as well as experience in using InDesign, Photoshop and Hootsuite.
  • Valid Class 5, BC Driver’s License.

Salary range is dependent upon demonstrated experience.

Hello, looking for a new challenge? We are looking to add an Intermediate Architect to our team, someone who can lead a small or medium-sized project or be a second on a large project. If you have been wanting a new challenge to do more, be more and work on innovative civic projects, then Johnston Davidson Architecture, also known as JDa, wants to hear from you.

 

We’ve been here since 1976 and like to work on challenging civic projects which are different than the rest. For example, industry changing buildings, such as supportive housing above a firehall – we are designing two more.  Mass Timber buildings, done several of them already with more on the way. Innovation, of course! Net Zero Energy and Net Zero Carbon buildings – designing those as well. New project delivery methods – ever heard of IPD? (Integrated Project Delivery), it is a game changer, and we are working on five IPD projects right now.  If you are enthusiastic about design, enjoy working in a vibrant team environment, like to have fun at what you do and care about sustainability, innovation and improving communities, we would be very interested in hearing from you!

 

Here are the standard bits:

  • Full time position
  • Candidates must be able to legally work in Canada, and currently be registered or be able to be registered with the AIBC
  • 5+ years minimum experience, preferably with civic or institutional projects
  • Experience in working on sustainable design projects (LEED accreditation is an asset)
  • Knowledge of the BC Building Code / Vancouver Building By-law
  • Experience in the development of working drawings using REVIT and show an aptitude for the use of REVIT in creative applications
  • Proficiency in Sketch-up, Enscape, Adobe InDesign or other graphic programs to produce architectural renderings and presentation materials
  • Salary range is dependent upon demonstrated experience

Intern Architect / Architectural Technologist

Job description:
We are looking to add an Intern Architect / Architectural Technologist to our team, somewhere you can gain valuable experience in construction administration, design process and the development of construction documentation on complex, interesting projects throughout the province. If you have been wanting a new challenge to do more, be more and work on innovative civic projects, then JDa, wants to hear from you. We are looking for applicants with great aptitude and enthusiasm who are ready to join our team.

Level of Experience: Junior to Intermediate

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be able to legally work in Canada
  • M. Arch. In Architecture / B. Arch Science from an institution recognized by the AIBC / CACB
  • Three years minimum architectural office experience – including the following: Experience in the creation of contract and bidding documents for civic and institutional projects.
  • Applicants will be expected to provide examples of their work.
  • Experience in working on LEED projects and in sustainable design.
  • Knowledge of the BC Building Code. LEED Certification is an asset.
  • Proficiency in REVIT or better is required including but not limited to the tasks as outlined below:
    • Experience in the development of working drawings using REVIT.
    • Ability to modify the properties of the model in a timely manner while respecting the multiple-user work-sharing process characteristic of REVIT.
    • Use of 3rd party software to produce presentation materials intended for client’s review or promotional purposes.
    • Providing technical support for staff having issues with Sketchup or REVIT digital modeling.
  • Extensive knowledge and job-related experience with the following additional computer programs: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Sketchup Pro. This should include experience in architectural rendering.
  • Applicants will be asked to provide examples of their work. Salary range is dependent upon demonstrated experience.
  • Good work ethic and enthusiasm working as a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Well organized and with good interpersonal skills
  • Experience in civic / institutional design is an asset
