Suzanne Kubyshyn

I grew up:
In Ukraine.

Education:
Bachelor of Arts, Diploma in Architectural Technologies, Master of Architecture.

Notable accomplishments/awards:
Completed postgraduate studies while raising a family.

I chose JDa because:
Of JDa’s expertise in creating vital community buildings.

I bring to JDa:
Commitment to project delivery and a collaborative spirit.

Earliest architectural memory:
A walk through a grove of trees, where ethereal moments of seclusion communicated that nature itself is the greatest architect.

My design philosophy:
Good design is rooted in user-centric and inclusive principles, prioritizing the needs and experiences of people while creating space for their stories.

I’m most excited about in architecture today:
The intersection of smart technology, building science, innovative construction methodologies, and thoughtful aesthetics.

A space that has affected me:
The summer house of my childhood, situated between woods and fields, has left an indelible memory in me.

What I am passionate about:
Functional minimalism: where need and purpose converge on refined terms.

Architects I admire the most:
I’m particularly drawn to the works of David Chipperfield and Steven Holl for their ability to balance context with innovative design.

Artist I would like to collaborate with on a design project:
A collaboration with Piet Oudolf would bring together the best of architecture and landscape design, creating impressionist-like spaces.

I’m inspired by:
Life near the ocean with its ever-changing scenery, atmosphere, and moods.

I can’t live without:
Light and hope.

I’m concerned about:
The erosion of appreciation for quality and craftsmanship in a culture of disposability and diminished agency.

Go-to morning drink:
Freshly brewed coffee.

I’m my best self when:
Momentum creates clarity.
